Roswell GA Municipal Court’s Judge – Maurice H. Hilliard, Jr. The Judge of the Roswell, Georgia Municipal Court is presently Honorable Maurice H. Hilliard, Jr., who has served as Roswell Municipal Court Judge for nearly 30 years. He was the Court’s Solicitor (prosecutor) prior to being named Judge in 1980. This judicial post, along with the position for the Municipal Court Judge in Alpharetta, Georgia, are the only two “elected” Municipal judges in the State of Georgia. All other Municipal Court judges are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of that city’s mayor and council.
Judge Hilliard is a lifelong resident of Fulton County and has been practicing law in Georgia for over 50 years. Well known as a leader among Georgia’s Municipal Court Judges, Judge Hilliard has been appointed as a Pro Hac (interim or “fill-in”) Judge of State Courts in Fulton, Forsyth and Cherokee Counties since 1983. Furthermore, he has been named as a temporary judge in the Superior Courts of Fannin, Gilmer, Pickens and Dawson Counties on an intermittent basis.
